Preferences

Use Preferences in the top toolbar to change how RaceStudio 3 works on your PC. Choose a menu item to open its settings, as described below.

Icon to enter software preferences

Language and Units Preferences

Choose Preferences > Language and Units Preferences. The window has two tabs: Units of Measure and Language.

  • In Units of Measure, click the unit beside a physical quantity and select an alternative from the menu. Click its decimal-format value to choose how many decimal places to display. Changing distance or speed units can also change related units: review the other rows after making your selection.

  • If you open these preferences while an Analysis session is in the foreground, additional Channel: rows show channels present in the open data. Use them to set channel-specific unit and decimal-place preferences.

  • In Language, click the language you want to use. A red border marks the selection. Press OK to save it, then restart RaceStudio 3 to use the selected language.

Important

Unit and decimal-place selections are saved as soon as you choose them. Cancel or closing the window does not undo these changes. To restore a previous setting, select its original value again.

Data Download Preferences

Choose Preferences > Data Download Preferences to set where downloaded files go, how they are named, and which additional processing runs during download.

Download Data

  1. Beside Root folder for download, press Change… and choose the main destination folder.

  2. Open Folder Structure. Enable the fields to include in the folder hierarchy and use the up/down arrows to put them in the required order. The example shows the resulting structure.

  3. Open File Name. Enable and order its fields, then choose _ or - as the separator. Check the example before confirming the settings. Fields showing Click to customize can be given your own text.

  4. To keep an additional copy, enable Copy downloaded data to another folder and use its Change… button to choose that folder.

Download Movies

Enable Use same settings as “Download Data” to reuse the data download settings for movies. Clear it to choose a separate root folder, folder structure and file name in this tab.

Download Session Types

Enable the session-type entries you want to offer in the download window.

Advanced Download Settings

The Advanced tab groups the remaining download choices:

  • Autoselect downloadable files selects files for download automatically. Skip selection of one only lap sessions excludes those sessions from automatic selection.

  • The merge button lets you choose Do not merge files, Merge files logged the same day, or Merge all files. These choices apply to logged data, and do not merge movie files.

  • Additional Export Formats enables extra files such as CSV, MatLab, Google KML, NI tdm, NI tdms or S3T alongside the downloaded data. Select the formats required by the software that will use them.

  • Analysis Mode selects the RaceStudio 2 data/video and RaceStudio 3 Analysis destinations used for downloaded files.

  • Change DB position changes the location of the Analysis database. Read RS3A Database Position before choosing a new location; this is a separate setting from the root folder used for downloaded files.

Press OK to save the download preferences.

Important

After changing the Analysis database position, the dialog cannot be closed with Cancel. Confirm the change and restart RaceStudio 3. If you have copied the database to a new location, restart before downloading or editing more data: further changes made before the restart will not be included in that copy.

Communications Settings

Choose Preferences > Communications Settings, then click the checkbox icon at the left of an option to enable or disable it:

  • Enable Detection of SmartyCam 3 or Ethernet AiM Devices enables discovery on Ethernet connections, including a SmartyCam 3 connected by USB. Leave it enabled when you use these devices.

  • Auto-Select ‘AiM Devices’ Window upon Connection switches RaceStudio 3 to its device window when a device connects.

  4. Press OK to save your choices.
